Wimbledon Mosque

About Wimbledon Mosque

Wimbledon Mosque was the first purpose built Mosque in South London and one of the first purpose built Mosques in London. The Mosque was opened by the Malaysian Ambassador in the 1970s and continues to host over hundreds of worshippers who offer their daily prayers and take part in the various educational classes for adults and children.

The Mosque sits at the heart of the community and can clearly be distinguished by its white minarets and green domes. It is conveniently located 5 minutes walk from the Wimbledon Park underground station and provides free parking spaces for up to 10 vehicles.

Wimbledon Mosques primary focus for its worshippers is to facilitate the 5 daily prayers in congregation. Beyond this the educational focus is to teach the community the fundamentals of Islam with an emphasis on spiritual reform and helping individuals model themselves on the great Prophets of the past. This includes the likes of the Prophet Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses and Jesus (Peace be on them all) and the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). The lives of these Prophets all share common themes of patience, humility, forgiveness and understanding.

For the wider community including our friends and neighbours, Wimbledon Mosque holds yearly Ramadan invitations providing the opportunity to share the experience of breaking the daily fasts with the worshippers at Wimbledon Mosque. During the winter the Mosque participates in a yearly winter shelter programme with our community partners (including churches and synagogues) to provide shelter and hot meals to the most needy. We also regularly host school visits for schools from the boroughs of Merton, Wandsworth and beyond and these are well received by students and teachers.

The Mosque will continue to strive towards facilitating the needs of the local community and provide easy access to information for those seeking to learn more about Islam.
